maligawila buddha statue

This is located close to Buttala junction on Monaragala Wellawaya road. This is 33 feet and 10 inches tall. The “Pathmasana”(the flower seat) is 4 feet high. This is created using crystallized limestone. Since Agbo who lived in Ruhuna in 7th century A.D. has build this statue. Which had fallen down and was lying on the ground for a long time and in 1948  it was damaged by treasure hunters. During the rule of late president R. Premadasa the Buddha statue was erected and reserved
